Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using theprivacyauthority.com ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Site.

Nature of the Service

The Privacy Authority provides privacy-related tools, news aggregation, original guides, a privacy glossary, and independent comparisons of privacy products (including VPNs, browsers, password managers, and email providers). All content is provided for general informational and educational purposes only.

Nothing on this Site constitutes legal advice, professional security consulting, financial advice, or a guarantee of privacy or security. You should consult qualified professionals for advice specific to your situation.

Interactive Tools

Our interactive tools (Privacy Checkup, IP Address Check, Browser Fingerprint, Password Checker, Data Broker Opt-Out) are provided for educational and informational purposes only. They are designed to run in your browser, though some tools connect to third-party services (see our Privacy Policy for details). We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or suitability of tool results. Specifically:

  • Password Checker provides strength estimates based on pattern analysis, not security guarantees. A "strong" rating does not mean a password is uncrackable or suitable for any particular purpose. Do not rely solely on this tool for password security decisions.
  • Data Broker Opt-Out provides links to and instructions for third-party opt-out processes. These processes are entirely controlled by the respective data brokers and may change without notice. Some may require you to submit personal information, including government-issued identification, directly to the data broker. We are not responsible for the actions, processes, policies, or effectiveness of any data broker's opt-out procedure. You follow these links and submit information at your own risk and discretion.
  • IP Address Check relies on third-party services (ipapi.co, ipify.org, Google STUN) for data. Location information is approximate and may be inaccurate. VPN detection is not guaranteed.
  • Privacy Checkup provides a simplified, opinionated assessment based on general best practices. A high score does not guarantee privacy or security. A low score does not necessarily mean you are at risk. The assessment reflects our editorial perspective and should not be treated as professional security advice.
  • Browser Fingerprint demonstrates browser fingerprinting techniques for educational purposes. The uniqueness assessment is indicative only and is not compared against any external database.

Reviews, Comparisons & Editorial Content

All comparisons, reviews, grades, and scores represent our editorial opinion based on publicly available information and our independent evaluation at the time of publication. They are not statements of fact. Product features, pricing, privacy practices, and policies may change after publication.

Where we name specific products or services and assign grades, scores, or characterisations (such as "significant tracking" or "no meaningful privacy"), these reflect our editorial assessment based on publicly documented features and known behaviours of those products. We believe these assessments to be fair and accurate, but they should not be treated as definitive or exhaustive analyses.

We recommend conducting your own research before making purchasing or subscription decisions. We are not responsible for the accuracy of information provided by third-party services, and we disclaim liability for any loss or damage arising from reliance on our reviews or comparisons.

Affiliate Disclosure

This website contains affiliate links. When you purchase a product or service through an affiliate link, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial content. Products are evaluated on their privacy merits using the same methodology regardless of whether an affiliate relationship exists. Products without affiliate programmes receive the same editorial treatment as those with them.

Affiliate links may be present on comparison pages, guide articles, and tool result pages. Where a link directs you to a product or service from which we may earn a commission, this constitutes a material connection that we are disclosing here in accordance with applicable advertising standards.

Paid Reviews

We may accept payment from companies to review their products. Paid reviews are subject to the following policy:

  • Paid reviews are clearly and prominently labelled with a visible "Paid Review" or "Sponsored" indicator at the top of the review
  • Payment guarantees a review will be published, not a favourable outcome
  • Our review methodology, grading criteria, and editorial standards remain identical for paid and unpaid reviews
  • We reserve the right to publish negative findings for any paid review
  • The paying party has no editorial control, approval rights, or right to revisions over the review content

News Aggregation

We aggregate news headlines, excerpts, and links from third-party publishers via their publicly available RSS feeds. The original content remains the property of its respective publishers. We do not claim ownership of, or editorial control over, third-party content.

We aggregate content in good faith under fair use / fair dealing principles. If you are a content publisher and wish to have your content removed from our aggregation, please contact us via our contact page and we will action your request promptly.

Glossary & Guides

Our glossary definitions and guide articles are written for a general audience and simplified for accessibility. They do not constitute legal, security, financial, or professional advice. For matters requiring professional guidance, consult a qualified professional in the relevant field.

This includes, without limitation, any damages arising from: reliance on tool results (such as password strength assessments or privacy scores); following instructions provided in guides or the data broker opt-out checklist; purchasing products or services through affiliate links; or acting on any review, comparison, or recommendation published on this Site.

In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liability, our liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

Corrections & Disputes

If you believe any factual claim on this Site is inaccurate, we encourage you to contact us. We take accuracy seriously and will investigate all good-faith reports.

For companies or representatives of products reviewed on this Site:

  • You may submit a factual correction request via our contact page
  • We will review your submission and respond within 14 days
  • If we determine a correction is warranted, we will update the relevant content and note the correction
  • Corrections do not guarantee a grade change; grades reflect our overall editorial assessment
  • We will not remove accurate, sourced information at a company's request

This process is provided in good faith. It does not create any legal obligation, right of review, or editorial control over our content.

Changes

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
